FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves. What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. What should I do with the food in my fridge? You must empty your refrigerator before moving it, so we recommend transporting your food and other perishables in a cooler during your move. What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state. What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day? If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move. What should I do with essential items I need on my moving day? We recommend that you transport any essentials such as bed linens, towels, toilet paper, cosmetics, toiletries and medication in your own vehicle. If this isn’t possible, clearly mark these boxes and make sure your movers place them in a specific place at your destination. What is overflow? Movers may have to leave some of your belongings behind if there is insufficient space in the moving van or truck. If this is the case, make sure to leave the least essential items for the next truck that will be heading to your area. What are wardrobes? ? These are special boxes that are designed to hold your clothes. Some come equipped with a hanging rod and can fit clothing from up to 3 linear feet of closet space. What should I do with my plants? We recommend that you move your plants yourself as they can suffer from a lack of light and water and temperature extremes in the truck. Please note that some countries will not allow the import of plants or other agricultural items if you’re planning an overseas move. What is hoisting? Certain large awkward items such as wall units or pianos may have to be hoisted out of a window instead of being carried down a flight of stairs. Check with your moving company about the availability and cost of this service. Do I have to hire packers or can I do this myself? You can certainly choose to pack your belongings and hire employees to transport them for you. However, you can also hire professional packers who are very experienced and have access to the proper packing equipment. What is a booking agent? This is the agent you choose as your mover or the member of a van line that will coordinate all dates and services for your move. |
